Trieste and the start to Slovenia

Wow so this is the problem when I don't update for a few days... So much happened and now I'll have a super long post... Oops.
So after I left Venice, I took a train to Trieste, a smaller (yet still pretty major) city right on the border of Italy and Slovenia. There, I met up with Margherita, who was an exchange student at our school a couple years ago.
Trieste is such a beautiful city!!! It's right on the coast, so it gets a nice breeze, but the 98 degree days aren't the best...
So to keep this short (because otherwise it will be an absurdly long post) Margherita and I walked around town on Thursday night and saw the basic downtown of Trieste, what you see above. There's a really old Roman Amphitheater that's still in use and still in pretty good condition so that was cool.
The next day, we drove up to a church on a giant hill, and it overlooks the entire city and its an amazing view. The church was a really interesting design too. Much more modern than the other churches I've visited in my travels so far...
(Don't mind my finger at the bottom of that middle one...)

She and I went over to the train station on Friday, to meet up with Igor and Damijana Pugelj, a couple of our relatives from Slovenia. (Also where my last name comes from. Pugelj isn't a typo. It is pronounced like Poogleyeh, I believe.)
We drove to their small town of Ilirska Bistrica in Southern Slovenia, and I was just astounded. I thought that Scotland was the most beautiful country ever, but when I arrived here, I had a new favorite. Everything here is so green and beautiful and honestly, the smell of the cows and chickens on the Pugelj farm reminds me a lot of home- Kevin's room, specifically... (That's a joke.) (maybe)
I'll write about the rest of Slovenia in a different post, because I didn't take any pictures on Friday.
